Yay - this is why I love doing these episodes with creative people - it's so rich to hear more about their behind the scenes and Annie was so generous. ✨
Hi Claire! I just wanted to share with you what has been really helpful for me editing my podcast, in case it helps you! I use an app/tool called Descript to edit my two podcasts and my client's podcast, and it's amazing. It makes things so much faster and, in my opinion, it is much easier to learn. It automatically transcribes your video/audio when you drop it in the editor, and you can edit it like you edit a document OR use the timeline (which I do because I'm more used to that, but I love that there is an option for people who aren't used to that). It's not too expensive, either, and I think there is a free tier that you may be able to use.
I don't mean for this to sound like an ad cause I don't get anything for referring people to it, but I want to share because it has been a huge game changer for me! And it makes it so easy to edit social clips with captions. (Full disclosure, I do have experience with professional audio and video editing from my former days as a TV news reporters/producer, so having previous knowledge of more sophisticated Adobe editing systems has helped me, though I no longer use them. I still feel like Descript is something most with no knowledge can learn how to use and use quickly.)
LOVE this Marcy! So I have a pro account on cast magic and it does the transcript and time stamps, socials etc. Substack does a video clip so that’s cool too. I have *just* found a new VA who loves my content and has time to edit for me so I’m SO excited about that. My pal uses Descript it does sound so amazing - I’m wondering if it’s a patience problem with me and garage band? ✨🙄
I have trouble with Garage Band too, even though I feel like I know more complicated programs, like Adobe Premiere and Audition! I always figured it was a patience and a stuck-in-my-ways thing, but then I successfully learned Descript very fast, so I think it might also just not be a very friendly interface. Anyway, I love that these new programs have come out that are sooo much more friendly and affordable than Adobe, and hence my need to feel like I have to tell all content creators about them, haha! Descript has been such a great platform for me to collaborate with my client on, too--she's able to view everything I'm working on and leave comments or mark things if she needs to. Could never do that with Adobe!!
Loved this conversation. I’m warming to Substack week by week and learning as I go. I feel as though I have permission on here to be experimental and flawsome, rather than being concerned with acting for the algorithms sake on my Insta account for example. Lots of inspirational content. Thank you .. will follow.
Love this Claire - just finished reading "Breath" by James Nestor and really getting into the potency of this stuff. Will be writing about it too in a couple of weeks! Thanks for hosting an amazing guest and introducing me to a new writer's work :)
Thank you for having me on your podcast xx
You're super welcome Annie - I loved re-visiting your words of wisdom in the transcript this week. ✨
Got so much value from this conversation - I have a few new ideas to think about. Thank you both! 😊
Ahh, that’s good to hear. Thank you x
