There’s also that line that says “when you meet an American, you meet their agent” which won’t be true in all cases but I think there’s something in that either we over sell or are too hidden - it’s a balance! On the cover of the book Russell had USA today best selling author. I had nothing under my name but I have plenty under my name - it was a conundrum… I could have put Substack Expert or Substack Bestseller but it’s not an accolade like award winning or best selling in the same way… always food for thought and space for nuance hey?!

Hi Anna Rose, lovely to see you here after I read a couple of your pieces yesterday!

Building on Mika's words and my reading...perhaps your word is 'Growth'?

There's a phrase that kept popping into my mind when I was reading Letters to your Dad and then Tides and Seasons ...'Life grows around grief',..that's how I've felt so perhaps I'm projecting ;-) It fits with returning to nature..just some thoughts - pls feel free to ignore ;-)

I’m going to read as I’m definitely your target market. My gardening this year has consisted of potting up flowers from the garden centre, trimming roses and unsuccessfully growing dahlias without flowers 😂

You know there’s no shame in buying plants from the garden centre. Life is busy and sometimes a quick result is what we need. But the Seed will help you to get bolder in the things you try in your garden and there’s a monthly advice thread where I can help you troubleshoot your overly leafy dahlias!

One word: Learning.

Explainer: Where you'll find practical insights to get new skills, sharpen your current ones, and empower your life.

(Basically, learning in adulthood beyond the outdated model of traditional "education")

https://juanfrank.substack.com

Expand full comment

I love that part in the brackets too because I was wondering what skills - but it sounds like “life skills”?

Expand full comment

Yes.

I normally put the generic “skills” because it can range from things like hobbies, general culture, career-related stuff, but also what you mention, life skills. (Or should we say now “human skills”? To differentiate it from the increasing “AI doing everything now”.)

Expand full comment

As we learn so many new skills around technology, I wonder what skills are going to drop off 😔

So great that you’re shining a light on this in your publication

Expand full comment

Yeah, that's quite an issue. There are some human skills that we are already seeing a vast decline in and I wonder if we can bring them back somehow.

But at least talking about it and bringing awareness is a good first step for more people to notice it.
