I met a writer at my recent conference in New Orleans and he mentioned he uses chat GPT for headline strategy. I think that’s a great idea! Ai can be great as a conversation starter if you are “stuck”! ✨

Ah, this is interesting. I had no idea about the a/b testing?! Thanks.

I tend to go pretty literal with my headlines (and I'm a sucker for alliteration, too), but wondering whether I need to start giving it a bit more thought!

I think the science is so interesting - why not give it a shot and report back so we can all learn and grow together?

My main guiding question on headlines is 'what makes me click on a post?' I make the assumption, rightly or wrongly, that other people are like me, and try to learn what I can from observing my own behaviour patterns!

YES! Observing is key! I don’t click on click bait - been burnt too many times.

For headlines....I always check in with myself - would I open this email with that headline - sometimes I want soul-inspired lines, other times 'how-to', sometimes I use AI to inspire. What I hate are headlines that don't deliver the promise of the premise. The great thing about substack is that you can experiment and see....

Ooo great! Let me know what pops up for you with it? I think it would be great to do a bigger time lag to cover time zones. ✨

Ooooh, super interesting that they've implemented this! As far as my own Subject lines, I treat my Substack like a blog, so they all have the "title" vibe. Interested in playing around with this though!

Hi Claire,

I have a problem. I signed up for your 7 day freebie, decided it wasn't for me and unsubscribed. I noticed a charge for $205 for your yearly membership on my credit card. This was a mistake. You have a great substack but it's just not for me right now. I would appreciate if you would reimburse my $205 asap. Thanks Terry Walker (terryjwalker808@hawaiiantel.net)

I write a draft headline and then go back and edit later once I've written the piece. Sometimes I do ask ChatGPT for inspiration too. I never take the whole title suggestion but sometimes just a word or two is enough to spark some inspiration and come up with a more appealing title

I don't think I have the a/b testing yet but sounds great!

I always struggle with headlines and rewrite it after just like you! And sent one out with an awful non-sensical typo once and someone pointed it out - though it was already in a thousand inboxes! 🤪

Quick question - assuming the As and the Bs go to different people? (So ppl aren’t seeing both?!)

Claire Venus ✨'s avatar

Exactly. I opt to send to 20% of my audience so presume 10% get one and 10% the other

Thank you. This is a great tool! (I often want to change the headline the second I press ‘send’ 😝)

Oh same! I sometimes send it to myself to receive it that way to see if it prompts anything.
