There are two types of people on Substack…
….those who listen to audio and those who don’t! 🤓 🤩
🎙️ I’m delighted to be bringing you some more of my intel around using audio here on Substack ahead of our members class tomorrow… I first started experimenting with audio (without video) on a project in 2019. I recorded oral history stories on Holy Island. It was an incredible project and one I’m super grateful for.
Last year, I was lucky enough to work with an incredible audio mentor as part of my
podcast project. My whole approach to season one of the podcast was to celebrate the perfectly imperfect creative process.I’ve been working with this intent since 2020 and it’s a welcome partner for learning audio and the podcast process! Is audio something you’d like to ‘get round to?’ then this workshop is for you.
There are four ways to use audio here on Substack. You can;
Press the headphones button in a post and upload something from your computer.
Press the headphones button in a post and read your post aloud.
Start a podcast! Or bring one over.
Insert a Spotify playlist embed (see below).
🪧 Did I miss anything? Here is one of Substack’s articles on audio? To find these articles, I usually goole whatever the thing is and Substack and they come up top! They are always very clear and insightful so if you’re new it’s a great place to start if you’re looking for advice on something very specific.

The Sparkle Call
We talked about the use of audio here on Substack, the way it reaches in to our readers and community the way words cannot, the creative ways with it all. I shared my insight and we workshopped some ideas for our Substacks…
I’m also talked about scripts, microphones, numbers of downloads, hosting, distribution, budget, where audio works well, editing, time, ai and MORE! Part two of this workshop will come out in April.

I take your Substack, come to it with fresh eyes and give you tips on growth, aesthetic cohesion, clarity and community building.
