Eeeek!! I sent it out to members but loads of people missed it so got it out to everyone now! ✨ just having a 7am coffee in the dark waiting for Majorca to turn on the sun! 🌞
This was great. A really interesting conversation. I particularly enjoyed the part on memoir, including Sarah's view on it potentially being a frame for research or journalism to use. Lots of stuff to ponder on. Thank you!
Oh just loved listening to this!! So many nuggets of wisdom and really helps anchor me to the ‘why’ and the purity of this place being for writing/words/creativity without the fluff! I’m excited to hopefully have a bit more space over the next few months to truly bed in a lot of my ideas for my writing home here. Thank you so much for bringing this to us Claire and Sarah! Xx
Without the fluff YES!! Haha I adore her she’s BRILLIANT and I’m so glad we connected honestly we are so unique in our approaches and experiences but with the same heart! ✨ 💜
I really love what Sarah is saying about the power of longform when what we have to say really merits the word count. I am NOT the master of brevity but am definitely flexing that particular muscle with every week that passes.
I also feel that with my upcoming switch to memoir for my member community, I'll be offering the kind of variety I love as a subscriber to other communities here. So many takeaways, and this is just one highlight from such a brilliant discussion, Claire! Well done!
I listened /watched this morning & am digesting it all. A great listen and now need to spend a little more time exploring a Substack & thinking about where I want to play. My big project is a memoir and I love writing creative non fiction but haven’t really known where to share it (other than submitting to journals which is also on my to-do list). I also love writing reflective ‘this is where my life is now post-cancer/bereavement/relocation’ posts so I can go in various directions, I’m just not sure which one to focus on or lead with. Thank you for the generosity of sprint in sharing all your insights though. So helpful. Hx
Ah thanks Harriet! The way is step by step! Take your readers with you - they don’t mind where you go once they’re signed up they’re signed up. There are a few folks experimenting in multiple genres - it’s such an expansive space here I feel. Sarah Fay is your gal for memoir serialisation too! ✨🙏
Thank you! I’ve brought some subscribers over from Mailerlite & had already started shifting the focus from my work writing to personal writing so adding new Substack subscribers (once I get going) is a great chance to really go for it. I was also super interested in the memoir serialisation approach.
This conversation was fantastic. I came to the conversation knowing Sarah Fay. I've subscribed because I'm now so delighted to come to know you, Claire. Thank you!
Oh Renée - that is SO sweet of you to say!! Welcome!! I love this chat with Sarah Fay! Her wit, intelligence and commitment is so impressive!! We’re getting together again in Dec.
It was a great and informative listen that was useful. You really both covered many aspects of writing and Substack. I loved how Sarah talked about writing teaching and its shortcomings and how through her Substack Writers At Work she is giving us the tools a university course don't.
Going to listen once kids in bed tonight xx

Hahaha we were awake in Leicester far too early after a night I couldn’t switch off... I have this top on (black not me but words are)

Saved for me to listen to tonight/tomorrow!!
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts - there’s so much magic in here btw I’m like an excitable puppy on this call 😆✨
I can only imagine haha!!

Yes! Loved how your transmissions both came across as so unique but with a thread between them x
I m also inspired ❤️
Two of my favourite people 💖
Me too
Thank you for sharing this conversation! I’m so interested in seeing how these approaches translate to ‘success’ or growth on substack.

I'm looking forward to listening to this! Thanks, Claire.
So amazing to hear u can be yourself and write about multiple things vs branding yourself thanks for stating that Sarah Fay! Relief
Enjoying listening to this 🙏
So glad Tommy!!
This was a solid, and informative interview. Thank you so much!
Aw you’re welcome thanks for your lovely comment!! Hope Substack is treating you well!

Such a beautiful way to combine your gifts and share.

So brilliant and actually a VERY important point. My arts degree was the same - I’m one of a handful of people who made a career out of it. ✨
Find out who you are; be weird; it'll work ❤️
Ha right?!! What was it horses and cupcakes?
