Example - Hi I'm Claire and I write a newsletter called Creatively Conscious which is about a more embodied way to show up for yourself and your work as an entrepreneur. I'd love to chat on Substack live about work/ life balance for mums. https://creativelyconscious.substack.com/
I'm tempted to do a live of me knitting from my sofa - a kind of real-life knit club. Alternately excited and terrified by the prospect though.
If anyone wants to join me in a live 'craft along' maybe a crocheter or another hand-craft person that could be a good way to break the ice on my 'live journey' as it were.
I definitely would love to do a live… I’m wondering about conversation or maybe a little live mediation perhaps?!? Or perhaps bringing people out into nature with me? As always loads of ideas and will have to see where the urge takes me. I’m keen for chats too… I talk about motherhood, nervous system support, creativity, space holding, heart and soul work, human design… mental health… womanhood… anything goes to be honest!! Xxx
On an impulse I did a quick Live on the day of the London Meet Up to talk about what it waa going to be like, just to test it out. I think it's something that could be integrated in. I'm Amy I'm an author if non-fiction and fiction. I run a small branding and communications agency that specializes in co-creative brand concepts and change campaigns. I host London Meet Ups whilst balancing raising our girls.
Not long maybe five minutes. But people did get and I got some nice feedback. It was short and unplanned so I think maybe 10. But the captioned clip was fun.
I've tried live several times over the last month. I don't get many to join me, but I like having the video diary. I've created a section on my main page for just these videos and I'm beginning to post the Substack clips on YouTube shorts.
Oh fab! Yes YT shorts - that’s on my list - I must do that. I got distracted as couldn’t figure out how to post them from the desktop. Do you know Sarah?
Dang, I forgot about Substack live and faffed for ages yesterday recording a video on Riverside.fm and then getting it somewhere I could upload it it to Substack
It definitely has its limitations. Plus on a laptop, it will only work in Google chrome, which I don’t use. So I have to save the video to Dropbox to use it where I want it.
I fancy the idea but no idea what to talk about!? Maybe another form of the Your Migraine Story Matters podcast? I want to include my extended research through them in a book I am writing so lives would help me increase that.
So if you think about them as a little collection over the year - building blocks to raise awareness with your current audience, connect with new people and at the end have a little archive folks can click into, does that frame it up for you?
Yeah. I’ll see if I can put a different spin on it to the regular podcast. Maybe a follow up of the first one for those that want to revisit and do a 2nd one or something.
It can be much more of a casual chat energy wise if that helps - I know you are great with your energy anyway but I feel like with podcasting I give it more and lives I’m more chilled.

Sounds so nice. Be nice to craft along…
I might be up for this Louise, although I'm another knitter so you wouldn't be showing a different craft.
I’ve got embroidery to bring!
I don't knit but I can imagine that people would enjoy joining a real life knit club! Sounds like a good idea!
I’m stitching a line every week of an embroidery 🪡 so I could bring that.
I'd love a knit-along!
I love that idea. There is something soothing watching someone knit 🧶 or craft.

My first live was from the forest it was really nice. That sounds really lovely Lauren...
I might try it this week! X
I’ll be there if I can

That’s fab Amy. How long were you on and how many folks joined? Do you remember?
Not long maybe five minutes. But people did get and I got some nice feedback. It was short and unplanned so I think maybe 10. But the captioned clip was fun.
Yay! Love that for you. ✨✨
Yes planning on doing live guided meditations very shortly! Thanks for the tips Clare 🙏
Oh brilliant Treacy! Are you thinking a regular weekly time slot?
Yes. Possibly Sunday evenings ✨️🙏💚
Perfect! Maybe start letting folks know? It will build up over time too!
I like the idea of a regular slot. That way people that missed the LIVE can show up next week. I might borrow that idea. ❤️

Here's my latest live video: https://open.substack.com/pub/sarahstyf/p/going-small?r=jbxzo&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true
You just upload like usual and it automatically is a short if it’s short enough, I think.
I like the idea of the video library. It is a more spontaneous way to show up.
Right. It’s cute too!

It’s great but only portrait so maybe landscape better for what you want to do Julie?

Ah ok... yeah tech gets out of date so so quickly...
I did a live this morning. I sometimes do lives through my private Facebook group.
I have no particular plan but I tend to feel bravest about sharing after a run. I suppose the endorphins help.
My topic is challenging so I have to be in the right space to share and I can’t predict this.
I emailed the recording to subscribers and I’ve had some engagement.
Engagement is slow but steady. People tend to message me privately due to the nature of my writing.
I had a head full of my Substack plans for 2025 after gently reflecting in December and January so I also felt inspired to share this.
Aw thanks for sharing with us Piata - did you download my free planner yet? Congrats on utilising those endorphins and going live!
yes I have seen this. Thank you xx

Anyone know if you can do lives for paid members only? Or do they always broadcast to the whole Substack universe?
