Hi Christine, I’m in Aotearoa NZ but had my babies in the UK, 13 and 10 years ago. I needed you (as a lactation consultant!) back then! So brilliant to see your work on here. I’d never thought of lactation consultancy and breastfeeding advocacy as part of Substack, but of course it’s perfect!

I nursed my boys until they were almost 5 years old, and now I know it’s a part of my late diagnosed autistic presentation, as I defied all the odds of undiagnosed tongue tie and huge birth weight losses.
I practically had a letdown seeing the initialism “IBCLC”. Ha ha! Brought everything flooding back… (excuse the pun).
Thanks, Sam! Such interesting insights about your own experiences. It's funny that you say you hadn't thought of breastfeeding advocacy "living" here on Substack because I was just reflecting recently on how the exact reason I migrated to Substack (vs social media platforms, where I NEVER felt comfortable) was that you absolutely do a disservice when you try to boil down breastfeeding messages to brief snippets. This information has nuance and needs time to be unraveled for folks. Social media posts don't do it. Sure, there are captions, but people don't read them. That is exactly why I don't spend my time there. The best social media people I know in the lactation field are finding themselves making a lot of carousels these days because it's the only way they can get people to look at multiple phrases rather than just one thing. I will be staying right here on Substack and working to build community here, and it feels just right for me.
Hello Claire. I am catching up, having just been on a few days' break. After listening to this, I will start to think about my own bio and about page for the FoodStack Library. Is it possible, when you update yours, that you could do a post showing your before and after, bio and about page so that we can see the difference?
Yes I have those to post here actually Lynn. I did go ahead and update it after the call from being all about me to all about my ideal reader and community member so what you see I’m happy with for now… still tracking through subscriber flow on app and desktop. ✨☺️✨ hope you had a nice time away!
