Let's Organise our Substacks!
SPECIAL "tidy-up" series - Substack Sections and Tags! + December Workshop!
Hi, if you’re new here. I’m Claire I’m an Engagement Consultant and Mentor in the Arts, Cultural and Heritage sector in the UK. I live under dark skies in Northumberland with my husband, two children and our 6 pet chickens.
I started my journey with Substack in April 2022. I fell in love with creating here, grew my publication within the Substack network and now have this space
to share what I’ve learnt with you. There are so many resources here to help you sparkle on Substack. I’ve dedicated my career to partnership working and it’s truly a joy to be able to hold space for you (all over the world) to connect.I hope you’ll join us in membership sparkles to cheerlead your colleagues, network, connect and build a world class Substack!
✨
Let’s tidy, let’s tidy up, let’s put our things away
🧹 1
Ahhh you know that end of year feeling where you want to tidy everything up, clear the decks and pop out the holiday decorations?
Just me!?
Well we’ve been celebrating my daughter’s 3rd birthday this weekend and before that we had the mother of all clear outs… It felt GREAT!
Fresh space, more boxes than I know what to do 2with and deep regret at not being able to throw anything away the kids have made or coloured. 🥰
Here on Substack it can feel tricky to know how to organise our publication.
I’ve seen my clients and members here get in a muddle so many times and made the odd few “mistakes” this last 18 months myself (👀) so I know all about it…
Is your Substack in need of a tidy up?
Do you want to make navigating your publication clearer to your readers.
Do you feel your navigation/Substack website is inviting and clear to new readers.
Do your paid subs know how to find your treasure trove of resources?
Have you tried Substack sections or tags? Are you curious?
Are you confused about whether to use tags or set up a new section?
Are you wondering about a second publication or whether you can make your ideas work as a section?
Do you feel BOXED in and are you wondering how to escape? I’ve got you!
The main difference between sections and tags?
🏷️ - Tags create collections!
🔖 - Sections create a NEW space people can subscribe or unsubscribe from!
Both enable you to have a URL within your publication and link to a ‘collection’ within your publication here or off the app.
We’re getting together in December for part 1 of 2 of our tidy up! Our workshop to explore sections and tags is Mon 11 Dec, 2-3.15pm BST.
Your time zone convertor is here.
You coming? As always our replay will be available within 24 hours if you can’t make it live! Do you have section/ tag QUESTIONS?
I’m all ears and the comments are open!
Sending sparkles,
Claire x
✨
PS - If you’re new here you don’t have to think about sections and tags, you can “just write” but in setting out your stall and planning your publication for the future you might just want to know what’s possible?
PPS - All your upcoming dates and opportunities are in the ‘members area’. I hope if you’re here as a subscriber you’ll consider joining us as a paid member and giving yourself the gift of head space to tidy up your Substack. It’s £8 per month or £70 per year to be here and I’d love for you to sign up for a year and commit to your space here. In the new year, monthly payments are going up to £11 for new subscribers so jump in now and make some space for your world class Substack! 3
Workshops and posts are locked to my ‘Founding Members’ after 12weeks so you have PLENTY of time to catch up with what’s here.
Yes this line is from The Toddler Club, we’ve watched endless episodes and tidied up a bazillion times…
I am never allowed to Ikea again!!
I read the words ‘world class’ in my pal Russell’s publication and it was such an invitation for me. Having worked on many ‘world class festivals and events’ over the years it made sense to bring that energy here. Here’s the article from Russell which I think is well worth sitting down with.
Oh yes! I definitely need a bit of organisation. My behind the scenes bits at Substack definitely show my "trial and error" approach so far 😂
Last week I did exactly this but it seemed like I had to edit each post individually if I wanted to add tags. Is there a way to bulk edit? I'm looking forward to this workshop. Thank you!
