The one that excites me the most is guesting on podcasts… and also my own podcast as I just adore sharing other incredible people on there. I think this is the one that resonates the most with me right now. I always struggle to position myself though as the scope of topics I could talk about is so vast (Manifesting Generator life!!) so I think this stops me from going all in on my PR! X
Why don’t you write down all the topics, pick one and just campaign on that for a little bit instead? If you know thats just your topic for right now then it might help with the overwhelm. This year, I’m trying to do more of a ‘my French life’ angle on things…
Yes in theory this is fab… and I do have threads that run through all that I do. I think in the last few years I just haven’t had the scope to do much beyond the essentials… but as I rebirth my work again this autumn I would like to bring more focus to some of the staple threads. But I also have to give myself room for the MG pivots!! Xx
One of the most beautiful questions I was asked to ask my clients is - “what do you feel you get from my work that is something I might not know” 🫶🏼✨ it’s a beautiful prompt especially for us multi passionates! 🤩
Yes I think it is easier when you have one single focus. Think that is why I love speaking on podcasts as there is room for nuance and flow! No rush hun… never a rush you know that. Xxx
Thanks for this great post, Claire and Lucy. I’m already guest teaching and sharing everything I write. Going on podcasts and developing my YouTube channel are my next steps, I think. Just trying to think what I can share on YouTube! Got a meeting lined up later this month about my first guest podcast appearance.
Oh that's so exciting - I subscribed to some channels I loved first and made it easy for myself - set a long goal to have a monetised channel which just happened yesterday!! Planning a blog post on it after hols. Actual website blog not substack lol
I’m going to have a ponder on how and what to do with the YouTube channel. I’m feeling like I’m supposed to be combining writing craft, mindfulness and reiki, somehow. I’ll see what comes to me over the next few months! 🧘♀️
I loved reading this as someone who also grows predominantly outside of Substack too. Almost all of my following come from elsewhere and one thing I love about that is it does frame the Substack app as a place I don't overly spend much time - which definitely helps me unplug a little more.
I loved these tips, going to think about being a guest on other podcasts as that's something I've not done!
Mostly from a couple for freebies I have and they then go through my welcome sequence (and once through that, only then do I add to Substack). Mostly people find me/the freebies through Pinterest, and once upon a time I ranked super high in Google for a freebie (my 100 Foods before 1 list) which is nothing to do with my actual niche but that on Google + Pinterest it does bring a decent number of people in, and largely they do stay for what I'm really about. To a lesser extent (much lesser extent 😂) Instagram is another source, but that's like trying to swim in mud!
I’m a member of lightbulb and have had so much great press through it. I’m also a paid member of Lucy’s Hype yourself Substack and echo Claire’s sentiments that it’s worth so much more than the cost. I love being interviewed on podcasts. I have fallen out of the habit of sharing my Substack articles on social media though- so that’s my pr mission for the next few months. Great article thanks Lucy and Claire
Yes, to podcasts! Not only is it such a fun way to connect with other creative people, but I’ve heard from many of my most devoted readers they have binged all my podcasts before reaching out to comment, pay for a subscription, or book deeper work with me.
This is such a great tip! I also love it because it helps us to be found when googled. A lot of what comes up when you search for me online are podcasts despite me having secured national press!
That’s great to hear! One of the other amazing things about it was that I was able to take a couple months of quiet-time when I had my baby earlier this year, but my organic traffic and signups kept growing (even with the reported slow-down in the Substack sphere this summer).

That’s a lovely invitation! Thank you xx
I also feel that like it was easier with the book but then inviting folks into mine was easy! PS - owe you a voice note sorry! ✨✨✨😍

Ooo good luck on the podcast pitches Amy! You’d be welcome to come on mine. (Easy as that) ✨
I would love to join you! Thank you so much 😍
This is so interesting Amy! Where coincidentally do you normally get your growth from?

Love Lightbulb it is by far my best PR hack for traditional press. You have reminded me Kendall I need to promote my article with Claire. BRB xxx
I’m going to record a manychat training this week to help you all with IG reach. Great intel about the FB group - thanks so much! ✨🫶🏼✨
