In what way? When somebody signs up without knowing you, it’s even more important to introduce yourself. I don’t think whether they sign up themselves or through recommendations that it matters. Your job is to get them to understand what you’re doing. You should assume everyone comes to your publication with no knowledge of who you are.
With the new recommendations engine that doesn’t really happen anymore - ie we are not getting those people in BUT I always say a boiler plate intro in your header or footer is great then you know it’s covered! If you want to re-introduce with drip funnels then that’s great too. Russell’s advice about chopping up the hero post is golden!
What are your thoughts on when people have recommended your Substack and they've subscribed without a clue of who you are?
