Accountability thread - going paid on Substack
How much to charge, when to do it, what to expect...
WELCOME!
I’ve set up a permanent post for FAQs and experiences on going paid on Substack.
We’ll use this space to chat all things ‘going paid’ from launches to unsubscribes, from sustainability to price increases.
You can access more resources as and when I build them here.
This is an accountability and community development space to compliment my NEW online programme;
I’m so proud of this work - I’ve been building it for 6 months and I’ve made it very affordable and ALL instant access - Substack £10k - Resource suite for growing (and sustaining) a membership.
You don’t have to have purchased the course to comment here.
My focus here on Substack is growing a membership because to me that is more sustainable than offering ‘paywalled’ writing given my unique skillset.
Substack say we can expect anywhere between 1-10% of our subscribers to pay for content but of course that is a living breathing, shifting space.
My percentage at
is 10% paid subs and grown within the Substack network almost entirely.I’ve been writing and delivering community content here since April 2022 and support over 300 members across two publications.
I’ve supported artists, best selling authors and influences to stay creative and set up memberships that work for them. Some of them are Substack best sellers now, some of them are still building slowly and sustainably in a way that works for them. All their work is joyful and brings money into their business every single month.
In the comments tell us;
Your Substack URL
How much your monthly and annual fees are
What you offer for those fees.
How it’s feeling…
If you’re looking for a general Substack FAQ thread, it’s here. Please ask your questions there as I share this space with Substack wizard
You’ll find lots of link minded people in the comments I’m sure. I’ll go first…
Sending sparkles for your journey ahead,
Claire

Hi all - I'm Claire. I host Sparkle on Substack but in this thread I'm going to tell you about Creatively Conscious. https://creativelyconscious.substack.com.
For the membership space; A sort of Fairytale, I write one paywalled post a month usually either focussed on whole hearted living or behind the scenes of my business.
I've called myself a 'slow lived entrepreneur' but things kinda sped up last year! I charge £10 monthly or £70 for the year and have a mix of monthly and annual subs. I have 50 members and at the moment usually get 1-2 new members a month.
I've offered special offers in the past, I don't do 7 day free trials. Special offers and just before a workshop usually brings new people in. I offer gift spots for anyone who can't afford to pay. I've run the model this way for over a year, it feels joyful and sustainable. I love the workshop spaces - they feel like really intimate circles. ✨
Hi I'm very new here. I wrote Holy Choas at https://faithn.substack.com/ and just started last month. I'm chuffed with my 32 free subscribers so far!
The potential to do zoom workshops, online retreats etc is something that I find exciting and will be exploring doing when I offer paid subs at some point! I self published a book in September and haven't written about that yet so it's interesting to read on the thread above that people might find the behind the scenes interesting.
